Job Description

An unarmed security officer protects property, assets, and people by maintaining a visible presence, monitoring premises, and controlling access. They deter criminal activity and ensure safety by patrolling assigned areas, operating surveillance equipment, and responding to incidents using observation and conflict de-escalation skills. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Patrolling & Monitoring: Conduct routine interior and exterior patrols to detect suspicious behavior, hazards, or unauthorized access. Monitor security cameras, alarms, and gates. 
  • Access Control: Verify employee/visitor credentials, issue badges, and prevent trespassing. 
  • Incident Response: Report emergencies (fires, medical events, security breaches) and contact local law enforcement or medical personnel when necessary. 
  • Customer Service: Provide general assistance, give directions, and maintain a courteous, professional demeanor with employees, residents, and guests. 
  • Reporting: Maintain detailed Daily Activity Reports (DARs) and write accurate incident logs. 
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • Licensing: Valid state-issued security guard registration (e.g., a current BSIS Guard Card if located in California). 
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand or walk for long periods, and capacity to work various shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays). 
  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, strong situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
