Job Description
An Executive Protection (EP) Specialist is a specialized security professional who safeguards high-net-worth individuals, executives, and dignitaries from physical harm, harassment, and privacy breaches. They conduct threat assessments, plan secure travel routes, and manage crises while maintaining a discreet, low-profile presence.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Threat and Risk Assessment: Identify vulnerabilities by analyzing historical data, monitoring open-source intelligence, and conducting vulnerability evaluations for homes, workplaces, and travel destinations.
- Advance Operations: Scout locations, map out entrances/exits, establish emergency evacuation plans, and coordinate with local venues or law enforcement before the client's arrival.
- Secure Transportation: Drive clients using evasive and defensive maneuvers, map out primary and alternate routes, and maintain vehicles in a constant state of operational readiness.
- Close Protection: Provide armed or unarmed physical security, manage crowd control, and professionally de-escalate aggressive individuals in a way that protects both the client’s safety and public reputation.
- Emergency Response: Provide immediate first aid, act as medical first responders during crises, and execute rapid extraction or evacuation protocols.
- Discretion and Privacy: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the client's itinerary, personal life, and business affairs.
Typical Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Usually 5 to 10+ years of prior law enforcement, military, or high-level corporate security experience.
- Licensing (California): Requires a valid California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard Card and Exposed Firearm Permit.
- Permits: A valid Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) or LEOSA (HR 218) credentials are highly preferred or required for armed roles.
- Medical Training: Advanced medical certifications (First Responder, EMT, or Paramedic) are strongly desired.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional situational awareness, emotional intelligence, patience, and the ability to operate calmly under extreme stress.
Salary & Work Environment
Compensation varies significantly based on the threat level, location, and seniority. Alongside corporate benefits and stock options. The work environment is demanding, often requiring 24/7 availability, international travel on short notice, and extended periods of standing or driving.
