Job Description

Duties

A correctional deputy works within the Sheriff’s jail system to control inmates by performing duties such as:

  • Escort inmates to the Medical Unit
  • Control contraband through routine facility and inmate searches.
  • Maintain security through key, door, tool and equipment control.
  • Perform business and record keeping functions.
  • Photograph inmates, take fingerprints.
  • Prepare and distribute paperwork, route booking sheets.
  • Prepare inmates for transport by applying restraint equipment and inspecting vehicles for safety.
  • Receive inmates, process inmate correspondence and phone calls.
  • Supervise inmates during meals and recreational activities.

Minimum Requirements to Become a Correctional Deputy

  • California Driver’s License
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application (no max age)
  • Must have a U.S. High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Conviction of misdemeanor domestic violence
  • Currently on probation
  • DUI violations within the last 3 years
  • Felony convictions
  • Lying or withholding any information
