Job Description

Under the supervision of the Nutritional Services Director, and/or designee, preparation and service of hot and cold 
menu items to students and staff; cooking and baking various food items. 


Typical Duties: 
1. Prepare the main entrees, vegetables, salads, salad dressing, breads and desserts, utilizing recipes and 
menus prepared by the NSD director;  
2. Determine appropriate quantities of needed ingredients and the time required for preparation;  
3. Request supplies as needed; 
4. Maintain food quality standards including appearance and nutritional standards; 
5. Receive, inspect, wrap, and store food supplies and materials; 
6. Serve and sell food to students and adults; 
7. Assist in inventory control; 
8. May operate a serving site; Maintain the kitchen, serving and dining areas in a neat, clean, safe and sanitary 
condition; 
9. Operate standard food service equipment such as, warming cabinets, can opener, refrigeration units;  
10. Wash and store utensils, hot carts, and other serving equipment; 
11. Maintain daily records and prepare reports as required; 
12. May assists in the training of food service personnel and student assistants; 
13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

initiative, maturity, dependability, courtesy, maintain personal hygiene, and ability to work cooperatively with others. 


Position Qualifications: 
Knowledge of: 
Methods and procedures for cooking, baking, preparing, assembling, serving and selling food in large quantities; 
proper storage of supplies and utensils; care and use of standard food services appliances and equipment; sanitation 
and safety laws and practices; basic arithmetical calculations and measurements; Federal and State school lunch and 
breakfast program requirements. 


Ability to: 
Prepare and serve large quantities of food proficiently; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish 
and maintain good working relationships with school staff, students, parents and community; collect money and make 
change accurately. 


Experience: 
Any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed 
above and at least one year of experience in large quantity food preparation. 


Education: 
High school diploma or the equivalent.  


License/Certificate Requirement: 
Valid California Driver License. Food Safety Manager Certificate required.
