Job Description

Under the close supervision of a Sergeant, the duties of the position include but are not limited to, routine inspections on commercial-type vehicles to determine compliance with weight, size, registration, safety, equipment requirements; inspect and test all types of commercial vehicle brake systems for compliance with the vehicle code and other applicable laws/regulations, referring violations to an enforcement officer for action when necessary; and attends required training.

Qualifications
Special Requirements:
- The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
- The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
- The CHP utilizes their own Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialist certification list
- Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialist classification to be eligible to take the examination
- To obtain certification list eligibility, please view the examination bulletin link at and follow all instructions
- In addition to applying for the examination, applicants MUST submit an application to this Job Control to be considered for the position
