Substitute Cafeteria Cashier
Purpose Statement
The job of Cafeteria Site Cashier was established for the purpose/s of securing funds for daily meal transactions; balancing receipts as well as adhering to accounting practices for monies handled; and processing free and reduced lunch applications.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: required accuracy and attention to detail. Incumbents work within a framework of policies and procedures.
This job reports to Director of Food Services/School Principal
Essential Functions
• Arranges food and beverage items (e.g. placing in steam tables, a la carte trays, filling racks, mobile carts, etc.) for the purpose of making items available to students and staff.
• Collects payments for food items from students and staff for the purpose of completing transactions and/or securing funds for reimbursement of costs.
• Monitors students’ food choices for the purpose of meeting mandated requirements and ensuring adequate nutrition.
• Prepares a variety of lunchroom-related reports (e.g. daily/monthly meal and revenue; bank deposits; lunch counts, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Prepares documentation of sales transactions (e.g. daily cash receipts, record; breakfast and lunch counts; etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Processes a variety of data (e.g. free and reduced meal status, pre-funded payments, eligibility categories, credit accounts, daily sales transactions, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support, maintaining accurate account balances and conveying information.
• Processes free and reduced meal applications for the purpose of determining eligibility under program guidelines.
• Reconciles cash and credit receipts to meal counts for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related practices, policies and/or regulations.
• Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals and food items, account balances, etc.
• Serves a la carte food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
• Assists students (e.g. retrieving utensils, cleaning spills, finding seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe, timely and healthy mealtime experience.
• Intervenes during incidents, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing lunchroom disruptions and/or injury to involved parties.
• Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
Other Functions
• Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
