Substitute Instructional Assistant - ALC
An ESS substitute Substitute Instructional Assistant assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The substitute Substitute Instructional Assistant job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.
Substitute Substitute Instructional Assistant are also known as school aides, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and personal care assistants.
Purpose Statement
The job of Instructional Assistant - ALC was established for the purpose/s of providing intermediate students that are assigned to the alternative learning center (in-school suspension program) with supervision, training and instructional support; working with both students and certificated staff in overseeing students; and providing clerical support.
This job reports to School Principal or Designee
Essential Functions
• Assists students with lesson assignments (e.g. specialized subjects, answering questions, creating additional work assignments, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and reaching their academic goals and potentials.
• Confers with teacher/s for the purpose of providing feedback on students’ progress though observation and daily contact.
• Establishes positive individual relationships with referred students for the purpose of building the students confidence and self esteem.
• Implements assignments received from the students’ classroom teacher/s for the purpose of providing instruction support in a variety of learning situations.
• Maintains classroom and instructional areas for the purpose of creating a comfortable supportive environment.
• Monitors students (e.g. classroom management, reporting problems, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions for the purpose of supporting the academic dean and/or classroom teacher/s in providing necessary records/materials.
• Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of students outcome and encouraging student development.
Other Functions
• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
