JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT / SPECIALIST COACH
BASIC FUNCTION
The Assistant / Specialist Coach supports the Varsity Head Coach and program staff in
delivering an education-based athletic experience aligned with the mission, philosophy, and
policies of the Placer Union High School District. Under the direction of the Varsity Head
Coach, the Assistant / Specialist Coach focuses on skill instruction, character development,
teamwork, and creating a positive and safe environment for student-athletes. This position
emphasizes teaching, mentorship, and preparation consistent with the InSideOut Coaching
philosophy.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Support the vision, philosophy, and expectations established by the Varsity Head Coach.
Provide instruction in assigned skill areas, positions, or specialty disciplines.
Promote a positive, inclusive team culture focused on effort, sportsmanship, accountability, and
personal growth.
Assist in monitoring student-athlete health, safety, academic progress, and well-being.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, and team activities as assigned.
Ensure compliance with PUHSD, CIF, Sac-Joaquin Section, and league rules and bylaws.
Assist with communication to athletes and parents in coordination with the Varsity Head Coach.
Support team meetings, Parent Sports Night, and established communication protocols.
Assist with roster management, record keeping, and required documentation.
Help maintain uniforms, equipment, and practice/game facilities.
Model professionalism and enforce standards related to conduct, equity, bullying prevention, and
responsible social media use.

QUALIFICATIONS
CIF coaching certification (or ability to obtain within one year)
Previous Coaching Experience Preferred
CPR, First Aid, concussion, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat-Related Illness, and mandated reporter
certification
Completion of all district clearance requirements (Live Scan, TB, required trainings)
Knowledge of sport-specific skills, techniques, and CIF regulations
Strong communication, instructional, and collaboration skills
Commitment to education-based athletics and student-athlete development
