ABOUT THE POSITION


The County of Riverside's Riverside University Health System is seeking Registered Nurses to work in the Emergency Department at the Medical Center in Moreno Valley. 

The Emergency Department is a large unit comprised of 40 treatment areas. There are six (6) acute trauma beds, three (3) acute cardiac beds and six (6) other specially monitored beds for acute patients. The 25 general exam rooms include a decontamination room, security rooms, an ENT, cast room, and forensic exam room. The ED is staffed with attending physicians and resident physicians 24 hours a day. 

The Registered Nurse II - MC/CHC is the journey level classification in the Registered Nurse – MC/CHC series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents  perform the full range of professional nursing duties within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act with minimum supervision and periodic in-service training within assigned unit(s).

The Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC is the advanced journey level classification in the Registered Nurse – MC/CHC series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position.  Incumbents perform nursing duties while applying advanced knowledge and skills in providing care and service to patients with more complex problems and needs within assigned unit(s). Incumbents responsibilities are expanded to include participation in activities relating to quality assurance, policy and procedure review/revision, in-service education, staff development and preceptorship. 

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department in an acute care setting.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • A current and valid Registered Nurse license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
  • A current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • A current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. 
  • A current and valid Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • A current and valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, (NIHSS), certification issued by the American Heart Association, Blue Cloud-National Stroke Association, or Apex.
  • A current and valid Trauma Nursing Core Course Certification, (TNCC), or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses, (ATCN), certification.
Additional Information
  • 3/12, night shift, 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.

Salary Range (Hourly) & Differentials
  • Registered Nurse II - MC/CHC - $43.9933 - $68.0905
  • Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - $51.1284 - $77.1585
  • Evening Shift Differential (6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.): $2.50/hour
  • Night shift Differential (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.): $5.00/hour
  • ED Critical Care Pay:
    • 0-2 years experience: $4.00/hour
    • 3-5 years experience: $5.50/hour
    • 6 + years experience: $7.00/hour
      • Specialty Care/Critical Care differentials will be applied following completion of required specialty training, attainment of all necessary certifications, and departmental determination that the employee is authorized to work independently.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of patients and prepare patients for medical treatment.

• Assist physicians in administering treatments and in performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests and surgical operations.

• Administer prescribed treatment and medications, including dispensing, as ordered to patients; chart treatment of patients; record and report significant changes in condition and general progress of patients.

• Counsel and advise patients, families and significant others regarding special medical problems and/or proper healthcare methods.

• Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physician's orders; transcribe physician's orders to working records.

• Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, Regional Occupational Program (ROP) participants and nursing students.

• Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.

• Assign and monitor, the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.

• Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and merging patients into the appropriate patient assignment or clinic flow when appropriate.

• Testify in court as to client's mental and physical condition.

• Coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process utilizing physicians, primary care nurses and third-party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.

• Review the post hospital care plan with the patient,/family establishing a contact regarding timeframes and responsibilities; follow care plan through patient discharge.

Probationary Period

As an Approved Local Merit System, all County of Riverside employees, except those serving "At Will," are subject to the probationary period provisions as specified in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, County Resolution, or Salary Ordinance. Temporary and Per Diem employees serve at the pleasure of the agency/department head.
