Helix Water District is seeking a part-time Public Affairs Education Assistant to help bring our water education programs to life. You’ll lead interactive classroom presentations and guide elementary school students through engaging tours of our R.M. Levy Water Treatment Plant. With a schedule that follows the academic year, you will enjoy summers and holidays off. If you are enthusiastic, creative, and excited to inspire young learners, we’d love to have you on our team!
The Details:
Our Public Affairs Education Assistant will perform a variety of administrative and educational functions. Our ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills to coordinate with teachers, school administrators and members of the public. You will need to clearly convey information about educational programs, schedule tours and present complex water-related topics in an engaging, age-appropriate and understandable way.
Our Public Affairs Education Assistant will have a genuine interest in education and connecting with the community, which will help you create engaging experiences that spark curiosity and enthusiasm in students. Your enthusiasm will make presentations and tours more impactful, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of water treatment, distribution and the water cycle among students and the broader community. Leading tours and conducting classroom presentations requires confidence and clarity in public speaking. You will need to deliver scripted information effectively, engage with your audience and handle questions with ease.
Creativity is not the only aspect of this position. We need someone who is an organizational expert. Managing schedules, tracking program participation and processing invoices requires strong organizational abilities. You will need to keep everything running smoothly and ensure that all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time.
