Part-time Licensed Mental Health Therapist for Counseling and Mental Health / Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences (Clinician Educator)

The Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seeking a licensed mental health therapist (PhD/PsyD, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) to serve USC students in Counseling and Mental Health in a part-time capacity (e.g., 50%FTE). We are seeking an experienced therapist to join a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary team who are strongly committed to providing excellent multiculturally competent clinical treatment, training, and outreach services regarding mental health and wellness to USC students. We are seeking candidates who are reflective of our diverse student population and who have strong clinical skills, are familiar with the duties associated with a university counseling center, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, collegial, professional environment. As part of our campus-wide strategic goal of promoting diversity and inclusion, we are specifically seeking licensed therapists who are linguistically and culturally adept in the provision of mental health care in students' native Mandarin/Cantonese tongue.

This is a part-time, non-exempt faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences and a clinical service assignment in Counseling and Mental Health (CMH). Salary is competitive and contingent on experience. The Department of Psychiatry provides clinical services primarily at the Los Angeles General Medical Center, USC Student Health and student exclusive practices as part of Keck Medicine of USC, and additional ambulatory practices for Keck Medicine of USC, including Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the USC Care Medical Group.

Description of USC Student Health

USC Student Health, an ambulatory practice of Keck Medicine of USC, provides comprehensive healthcare on both USC’s University Park Campus (UPC) and Health Sciences Campus (HSC). USC Student

Health’s team is dedicated to providing student’s basic primary care needs, mental health and counseling services, and a variety of health and well-being activities through campus-wide partnerships. USC Student Health also offers on-site specialty care services such as allergy, immunization clinics, and dermatology.

Description of Student Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMH)

USC’s Student Counseling and Mental Health (CMH) supports students in achieving their academic and personal goals. CMH services include short-term individual therapy; “Let’s Talk” and solution sessions; group therapy; referral to community providers; crisis intervention; psychiatric evaluations and medication follow-up; outreach and prevention; collaboration with campus partners; and training and supervision. Specialty services include Eating Disorders and Body Image Concerns, and Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Services. CMH coordinates the university’s mental health response to campus tragedies, and conducts postvention efforts related to student deaths.

Training is an important function in CMH. We are committed to providing professional training opportunities for trainees in psychology, social work, and medicine (i.e. medical students and residents). The entire faculty is involved in our training programs, including individual supervision, group supervision, case consults, and/or seminars. The training also includes participating in and promoting self-reflection. Job Accountabilities:

• rovide evidence-based, trauma-informed, and multiculturally-affirming psychological interventions to USC students, including individual treatment, group therapy, routine and urgent intake, triage, case consultation, third party consultation, and after-hours coverage.
• Document clinical activities in a timely manner, in accordance with health system and departmental policies and procedures.
• Present didactic training in seminars for social work, marriage & family therapy, and psychology practicum interns on theories, interventions, or diagnoses.
• Provide psycho-educational workshops to USC faculty, staff, and students.
• May supervise interns and practicum students.
• Serve on CMH, Student Health, Department of Psychiatry, KSOM, or other committees as assigned.
• Attend meetings, including administrative meetings, Faculty and Senior Staff meetings, Faculty and Senior Staff Case Consultation meetings, supervision/training meetings, and others, as assigned.
• Participate in yearly merit review, performance evaluation, and quality improvement activities.
• Attend Grand Rounds, Department Matters, and other departmental events and meetings, as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Counseling, or Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
• Licensed in the state of California
• Experience in short term treatment, including brief psychotherapy, stabilization and referral of serious mental illness, and crisis intervention
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and multicultural competency in working with students of color, students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQIA2S+ students, and international students
• Self-aware and can thrive in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Work experience in college counseling centers, with transitional age youth, and/or with graduate students
• Strong diagnostic skills and knowledge of DSM5
• Experience working with issues encountered in early and emerging adulthood, including identity issues (e.g., sexual identity, gender identity, racial/ethnic identity, etc.), sexual trauma, eating disorders, and substance use disorders
• Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and skills in group process work and training
• Experience and commitment to working with minoritized individuals
• Effectively works in a highly diverse, multicultural, and LGBTQIA2S+ affirmative environment
• Commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice and to professional integrity
• Desire to continue to grow as a professional and committed to excellence and lifelong learning
