Software Engineer III (Platform Engineering) - Remote

Robert Half is seeking a Software Engineer III (Platform Engineering) to support the infrastructure, platforms, and services that power our applications and data processing environments. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building cloud infrastructure, automating processes, improving platform reliability, and troubleshooting production issues in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do

Spend approximately 70% of your time building and deploying infrastructure and platform enhancements, with 30% focused on operational support and troubleshooting.

Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-based infrastructure supporting applications, ETL/ELT processes, and platform services.

Develop and maintain infrastructure automation, monitoring solutions, CI/CD pipelines, and operational tooling.

Build and manage AWS resources, including EC2 instances and related cloud services.

Support platform services in production environments, troubleshoot outages, and drive root-cause analysis and resolution efforts.

Manage critical incidents, including coordinating with external vendors such as Microsoft to resolve high-priority production issues.

Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions and improve platform reliability, scalability, and performance.

Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to support application delivery and platform stability.

Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and promote engineering best practices.

Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately every three weeks).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 6+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications, infrastructure, and cloud platforms
• Strong Python programming skills (top technical requirement)
• Hands-on experience with PySpark and data processing frameworks
• Deep AWS experience, including independently provisioning, configuring, and supporting cloud resources
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and Git
• Experience with cloud monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational support
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues
• Experience working in Linux environments and supporting mission-critical systems
• Familiarity with SQL, Shell scripting, and relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working within Azure environments
• Knowledge of AWS Glue, Lambda, Spark, and Jupyter Notebooks
• Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, Autosys, and enterprise monitoring tools
• Understanding of application administration, SaaS platforms, and API integrations
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical documentation

Success in This Role:

• The ideal candidate is highly skilled in Python and AWS, comfortable owning infrastructure deployments, and able to confidently troubleshoot production issues when platform services are unavailable
• This person thrives in a balance of project-based engineering work and operational support, ensuring platform reliability and business continuity
