Vacancy Announcement Details 
The California Military Department is accepting applications for the State Active-Duty position indicated above. An appointment to this position provides full benefit status for the appointee and their beneficiaries. The incumbent will be appointed on annually renewable State Active-Duty orders through year six, at which time the incumbent may be eligible for career status IAW CMD Reg 600-1, dated 15 November 2024. Continuation and 
subsequent extensions of service will be determined by the individual’s performance of duty and continuation of funding. The Service Member selected for this position will be paid at their Federal or California State Guard 
(CSG) pay grade, not to exceed E-4. This announcement has minimum requirements. Failure to meet these requirements will cause your application to be rejected from consideration. While it is important for you to read

Eligibility Requirements  
• Active members of the California Military Department (Army, CSG) in the grades E-2 through E-5 may apply. Applicants must have a militia affiliation per Para 5-2 of CMD Reg. 600-1. CSG members who have no prior federal militia experience must be a member of the CSG in good standing for a minimum of two years for eligibility for SAD vacancies.   
• Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  
• Must know first aid, fire prevention, and safety.  
• Must never have been convicted by a civilian or military court, except for minor traffic violations and similar infractions.  
• Must be qualified to bear firearms during the course of employment.  
• Must be 9mm pistol qualified (M17 or Beretta). Pistol qualification must be current at the time of appointment. Attach a copy of a recent pistol qualification scorecard.  
• Applicant must meet and maintain federally recognized medical fitness standards. Attach a current copy, within the past twelve months, of your military component's verification of these requirements.  
• Applicants must maintain good standing with militia component. 
• Completion of militia and civilian education requirements commensurate with the grade of the applicant are required.  
• Militia assignments appropriate to the grade of the applicant are required. 
• Applicants must meet, and maintain, militia component medical and physical fitness standards. 
• Appropriate militia uniform with federal or state recognized rank will be worn in accordance with militia regulation. 
• Must be able to pass State and Federal background checks (Live Scan), and California Military Department status verification. Continuation of employment is contingent upon maintaining favorable background checks. 
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 
Guidance and supervision from CA ARNG G-3 Protection Branch Chief, Protection Programs NCOIC, and site SECFOR NCOIC. 
• The security guard will perform security duties IAW State laws and statutes, AR 190-56, CAL PAM 190-56, and the Army National Guard Security Officer Program.  
• Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to controlling entry to and egress from the location via designated installation/facility access control points.  
• Report and respond to internal and external physical security threats.  
• Conduct vehicle inspections supporting the installation security and Random Antiterrorism Measures program, patrol/protect installation perimeter, and mission essential or vulnerable areas to detect or deter unauthorized entry.  
• Monitor electronic security systems and devices, including automated access control systems, closed circuit television, intrusion detection systems, and security control center, and initiate appropriate response forces.  
• Provide other services necessary to secure CAARNG resources and personnel as approved by applicable regulations.

Candidate must clearly and concisely identify experience in categories listed below and must be in the following order: 
• Describe your background, experience, and education, and or training in physical security, antiterrorism, OPSEC and other protection programs. 
• Describe your experience with self-employment and or other times were you were working remotely without direct supervision. 
• Explain your experience with IT systems.  For example; Microsoft Suite Programs, Adobe, IE, SharePoint. 
• Describe a time when you were faced with multiple competing deadlines and how you overcame the situation.  How did you organize tasks and with method and tools did you use?   
• Explain an experience where you had to interact with a disgruntled individual. How did you deescalate the situation to achieve the best outcome of the interaction.
