Job Description

DEPARTMENT:
Segerstrom Center for the Arts is Orange County’s premier arts organization. The Center has earned praise both as a world-class venue and as one of America’s leading presenters of national and international performing artists and companies. Security plays an important role within the Center to ensure a safe, secure, and friendly environment for all patrons, performers, guests, and staff who come to work or attend events within the Center campus. The Security Department always protects the Center’s facilities and is the department primarily responsible for public safety and emergency response.

JOB SUMMARY:
Security Officers provide personal safety, physical security of employees, patrons, and property of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts campus by monitoring CCTV, access control, and other life safety systems.  

JOB DUTIES*:

  • Fully understand, operate and monitor security access control systems, alarms, and CCTV systems.
  • Follow and enforce established policies and procedures.
  • Dispatches appropriate departments as needed for campus operations.
  • Provides superior customer service to all staff, vendors, and contractors of the Center.
  • Logs daily activities and incident timelines.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements.
  • Check ID badges of people entering the facilities to verify legitimate admission.
  • Provide information and directions to patrons and employees.
  • Patrol and inspect the facility and report security and general maintenance problems to the proper authorities/departments.
  • Maintain logs and records, complete paperwork, check company email communication daily, and use a computer terminal to input and retrieve data.  
  • Process lost and found items.
  • Observe and logs incidents, await the arrival of emergency personnel and direct them to the scene of the incident.  Render aid when appropriate.
  • Must effectively manage the loading dock and communicate with Production staff on truck locations and needs.
  • Monitor load ins of tours by checking tour credentials and issuing tour access badges and keys as needed.
  • Must be able to effectively issue keys, radios, and other related equipment to staff.
  • Responsible for package receiving and notification of packages to recipients via email.
  • Dispatching of various departments for specific needs.
  • Patrol assigned areas. Check for suspicious occurrences and enforce staff parking lot assignments.
  • Respond to and investigate situations reported to the Security Department.
  • Wear approved uniform assigned to the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

*-  Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor in support of departmental goals

REQUIREMENTS*:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CCTV monitoring experience is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of dispatch and/or Command Center experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to multitask and function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidate must successfully complete a background check.
  • Must have the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires daily and punctual attendance. The applicant will be willing to work various shifts and must be reliable as this is a critical role.

COMPETENCIES: 

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills.  
  • Ability to evaluate situations and use good judgment in resolving issues.
  • Operational knowledge of CCTV, access control, and fire alarm systems is a plus.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, contractors, and Center staff.
  • Ability to gather and organize facts and complete clear, concise reports.
  • Exercise alertness and be able to act quickly, multitask calmly and with good judgment in an emergency.
  • Operation of various security equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Must be able to work on any shift.
  • Required to walk periodically and throughout the 8-hour shift (not including meal and break periods), making rounds around the campus which will also include going up and down several flights of stairs.
  • Must also have the ability to sit throughout the 8-hour shift (not including meal and break periods);
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity while using hands including heavy use of keyboard.  
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and have good hearing.
  • Must also be able to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • May be required to periodically lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  
  • Must have good vision to include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus while maneuvering through both light and dark spaces and in stairways.

WORK CONDITIONS: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, the desk area well-lit and room temperature controlled while in the office. 
  • When in event spaces, the noise levels can be very loud, work areas subject to low and high intensity lighting levels, and varying degrees of temperature.

COMPENSATION: 

  • Salary Range: $18.00-$19.00/hour; Part Time, Non-Exempt.
  • Time Off (Sick).
