ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside's Department of Facilities Management is seeking an Environmental Planner I to join its Environmental Energy Team in Riverside, CA.
Under general supervision, the Environmental Planner I will support environmental planning and environmental equipment compliance activities.
The Environmental Planner I will support essential environmental compliance responsibilities involving County underground storage tanks, emergency generators, chillers, hazardous materials, cogeneration equipment, and septic and water systems. The incumbent will support ongoing monitoring, inspections, training, contractor coordination, and timely permit management to ensure continued regulatory compliance and uninterrupted County operations. The Environmental Planner I will also perform other related duties as needed.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the most competitive candidates will possess:
•A fundamental understanding of environmental planning principles and public administration.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with tact, patience, and courtesy.
•Basic knowledge of public relations techniques.
This class is the entry level in the professional Environmental Planner series. Incumbents report to a senior level planner class and receive substantial training in the principles, methods, and procedures essential to professional planning activities. Incumbents are generally given environmental, land use or transportation planning assignments of a more routine, less complex nature. Their work is initially subject to detailed and frequent review which lessens as they become more experienced. This class differs from the next higher class of Environmental Planner II in which incumbents are expected to have advanced their job knowledge and skills sufficiently to perform the less complex planning assignments with less guidance and review.
Environmental Planner II is an intermediate working level designed to be the transition class between the entry and fully qualified journeyperson. Environmental Planner I incumbents are expected to promote to Environmental Planner II upon acquiring the necessary experience and receiving a satisfactory job performance evaluation. Failure to achieve a satisfactory performance evaluation and the necessary experience and education to promote to Environmental Planner II within the probationary period will result in incumbents being returned to their former County classification or being released during their initial probationary period.
