GENERAL PURPOSE
With general supervision, provides part-time employment opportunities for college level interns to perform job assignments that are closely related to their area of study. Any full-time college or graduate level student may apply for consideration for vacancies. This is a year-round internship hiring for immediate openings.DISTIGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Total scheduled work hours shall not exceed 25 hours per work week (Monday through Friday). Intern positions do not include benefits and are not eligible to receive paid leave, paid holidays, retirement and/or any type of insurance.
This is an in-person position, hybrid or remote schedules are not available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities assigned to Interns will vary depending on the department they are assigned. In the Engineering & Construction Department this internship will provide hands-on exposure to the Engineering Department and the planning, design, and construction of Port infrastructure projects. Day to day, the intern will assist with project research, document review, field visits, meeting coordination, data organization, and other assignments that support active capital improvement projects.
The position is intended to provide broad exposure to engineering in a public agency environment and opportunities to learn from engineers, project managers, consultants, contractors, and other Port departments.
POST GRADUATION
At the discretion of the appointing authority, intern assignments may continue for a total period of up to two (2) years, including up to one (1) year following graduation, subject to program needs, funding availability, and satisfactory performance and conduct.

Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications, applicants may be scheduled for one or more of the assessments listed below. Passing score is 70% out of 100% on each assessment section.

Placement on Eligible List:The Department of Human Resources may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the assessment process. Candidates who are successful in all phases of the assessment process will be placed on an eligible list. The eligible list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of ninety (90) days or up to one (1) year, unless otherwise determined by the Director pursuant to Rule 8, Section 4.
