The Department of General Services (DGS) serves as the business manager for the State of California, with more than 4,300 employees and a budget of approximately $1.4 billion. DGS provides a unique variety of services to state agencies, boards and commissions, including innovative procurement and acquisition solutions; creative real estate management and design; building maintenance and operations, environmentally friendly transportation, travel and meeting management; design, funding and construction oversight for the construction of safe schools, and the mission critical administrative functions supporting these essential services.
Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Sustainability Outreach, Communication, and Innovation Officer (Sustainability Officer) is responsible for expanding the use of Office of Sustainability (OS) programs by State agencies. The Sustainability Officer develops new policies and launches new programs to advance and institutionalize sustainable practices among state agencies. The position facilitates compliance with new and existing sustainability policy by managing and leading outreach efforts, ensuring that state agencies are aware of and actively engaged with the office's programs.
