Job Description

Duties:

1. Perform all lesson plan set up. This will include the following: counting out classroom materials to make sure there are enough for each class, arranging the classroom so it is free of distractions and unrelated materials, making color copies of learning logs for each individual student, making sure all lesson plans are up-to-date with all components (visual, auditory and kinesthetic adoptions with Specially Designed and Instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies and making appropriate timeline for each lesson. Link all lessons to the Next Generation Science Standards.

2. Teach fourth, fifth and sixth grade students Department of Defense approved STARBASE lessons. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. Monitor student progress to ascertain whether or not objectives are being met on a regular basis. Break students into groups, use appropriate classroom management techniques and utilize SDAIE strategies. Lessons will have components that are taught both indoors and outdoors.

3. Fully understand and research the concepts being taught which will include but are not limited to: basic chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, geometry and number sense. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs.

4. Supervise students in an outdoor setting for the purpose of learning activities as well as model and water rocket launches. This will include organizing and ensuring all students are in a safe location and ensuring there is adequate eye protection. Setting up safety precautions and correctly assembling lesson equipment. Discontinuing activity if safety procedures are not being followed. Other outdoor activities with students include but are not limited to: parachute activities, hot air balloon activities and other Department of Defense STARBASE lesson, or potential lesson.

5. Supervise students in an outdoor setting for the purpose of chemistry experiments. Must ensure safety for cautions when students are handling all chemicals and working with hot plates. This includes making sure all manufacturers safety guidelines are followed. This includes making sure all students are wearing eyes and skin protection. This includes monitoring class progress and discontinuing lesson if safety precautions are not followed and complying with HAZMAT regulations.

6. Keep student records including: roster, student pre-and post-test results, attendance, notes on student behavior, all injuries, as well as any type of incident. Report all incidents using the site SOP.

7. Team teach with the teachers to follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Defense STARBASE lessons. This will include collaboration on improving student learning, improving post test results, integrating technology, and updating lessons.

8. Help organize science activities for students in sixth through 12th grades. This includes the following: setting grade and skill level objectives, designing “hands-on, minds on” activities using the appropriate Next Generation Science Standards.

9. Keep track of supplies used and supplies needed for each lesson. This will include counting supplies before and after lessons are completed for the day, project out for how often new supplies will need to be ordered three months in advance.

10. It is desired that all those bidding for this contract have a valid California teaching credential OR degree/enrollment in a STEM related degree program. Must be proficient in Microsoft excel, PowerPoint and Word. Must be able to pass DOJ live scan.

11. Preferred skills include: proficient in math and science. Major in any type of STEM related field. Rocket team experience desired, or a teaching credential with a STEM background.
