Assistant Superintendent

Job Description

Marin Country Club in Novato, California is seeking a full-time Assistant Superintendent to contribute to a positive experience for members and guests while continuing to grow knowledge of golf club operations.

  • Work with the Director of Agronomy and Superintendent to create yearly budgets, agronomic calendars, and project schedules.
  • Work with the Superintendent to create daily and weekly schedules for the maintenance team.
  • Oversee daily maintenance of the property and ensure tasks are completed safely and to club standards.
  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training new team members.
  • Oversee orientation and training of new team members.
  • Develop and maintain training programs for each task on the golf course.
  • Evaluate team members' individual performance for annual performance reviews and daily feedback.
  • Address complaints and problems among team members in a professional manner that promotes honesty and teamwork.
  • Work with other managers and irrigation technicians to maintain the property's irrigation system.
  • Manage water throughout the property using a deep and infrequent practice to simultaneously promote playability and turf health.
  • Perform routine safety training with the team and conduct safety inspections of equipment and work areas.
  • Read, understand, and maintain current material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product labels.
  • Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Maintain a log of applications and file related reports.
  • Oversee and facilitate chemical and fertilizer applications.
  • Ensure proper calibration of all spraying and fertilizing equipment.
  • Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience preferred
  • Bachelors
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise a team.
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in spraying and fertilizing equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product labels.
  • Understanding of governmental regulations for chemical storage and mixing.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office and irrigation programming.
  • Certificate, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in horticulture or turf management preferred.
  • Two to three years of golf course maintenance experience required.
  • Prior managerial experience preferred.
  • Must possess or obtain within 90 days a California Qualified Applicator's License or Qualified Applicator's Certificate.
