Sr. Electronic Design Engineer, Drive Inverter - Palo Alto [262305]

$120,000 - $228,000 yearly

Job Description

The Drive Inverter team designs the power electronics that move Tesla’s cars - quickly, efficiently, and reliably. Delivering hundreds of kilowatts of power from the battery to the motor, the drive inverter integrates high voltage power electronics, low voltage circuits, signal integrity, functional safety, and mechanical packaging. Electronic Design Engineers on the Drive Inverter team deliver component designs to ensure the system-level performance of the industry’s highest production volume traction inverters.

The Role

  • End-to-end ownership of inverter circuit designs including specifications, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring up, validation, and overseeing reliability and functional testing
  • Design, develop, and validate electrical and communication systems, including the definition and validation of signal integrity and EMI/EMC requirements at both component and vehicle levels
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, firmware, and test engineering, to see products through high volume manufacturing
  • Debug component interactions at the inverter and vehicle level

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Digital and analog circuit design, including high voltage circuits or power supply design
  • Experience with circuit debugging and troubleshooting
  • Printed circuit board design (Altium) and initial bring-up: debugging, soldering, wiring, mechanical assembly
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware, microcontrollers and their peripherals, Python scripting or similar
  • Familiarity with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies
  • Switched-mode power supply (SMPS) and DC-DC converter design
  • Signal integrity, high-speed PCB layout, and noise mitigation techniques
  • Basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, filtering
  • Automation of lab equipment (GPIB/SCPI/VISA)
