Job Description

Tesla’s Aerodynamics team is looking for a world-class technician to operate and maintain our exciting new wind tunnel test facility and other aerodynamic test equipment. Working on the front line of aerodynamic testing, you will develop expertise in the use of the cutting-edge technology that is employed in helping to develop new vehicles. The successful candidate will have a wide range of hands-on skills that will enable them to maintain and operate complex control, electro-mechanical and hydraulic systems to the highest standards.  You will have an eye for detail that will help you to contribute to successful testing outcomes and a curiosity to learn, grow and contribute value to our mission.

The Role

  • Day-to-day operation and maintenance of Tesla’s wind tunnel, under the guidance of the Aerodynamics Test Equipment engineering team, ensuring that the facility runs to the highest of standards
  • Use of wind tunnel software to set up and execute test procedures safely and effectively
  • Acting as the first line of defense in identifying, diagnosing and resolving operational issues and safety concerns
  • Assisting with the build, maintenance and operation of all types of aerodynamic test equipment, including wind tunnel test articles
  • Completion of checks and calibration ahead of asset use
  • Maintenance of tools and consumables
  • Assisting with the organization of aerodynamic test equipment logistics for offsite events
  • Proactive involvement in development methods and processes to deliver continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Experience in an R&D test environment
  • Hands-on experience of test equipment build
  • Understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, bearings, hydraulics, bushings and actuators
  • Excellent computer skills and an appetite to learn new software
  • Basic CAD familiarity, with ability to load and interrogate models and assemblies
  • A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills
