Job Description
Tesla is looking for a Technical Accounting Lead that will report directly to the Technical Accounting Manager. This role will be part of the Corporate Controllers team responsible for the accounting and reporting of significant accounting transactions, special projects, and SEC reporting.
The ideal candidate is familiar with US GAAP and technical accounting subjects, such as revenue recognition, software costs, leases, stock-based compensation, debt and equity instruments, business combinations, variable interest entities, going concern and impairments, as well as SEC reporting processes on Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting processes and best practices. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have strong organization and communication skills, and be very self-motivated and efficient.

The Role
- Independently research accounting guidance for unique, non-routine, and complex business transactions to develop appropriate accounting treatments
- Prepare high-quality technical accounting memorandums on complex transactions
- Assist in the preparation and review of corporate accounting policies and procedures
- Analyze new and proposed accounting standards, determine the impact on Tesla, and implement new accounting standards as required
- Work cross-functionally with other groups (e.g., FP&A, Legal, external auditors) to ensure timely identification of accounting and financial reporting matters
- Assist with preparing and reviewing Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and other required SEC form filings Identify and implement

Tesla vehicles are produced at its factory in Fremont, California, and Gigafactory Shanghai. From there, Tesla continues to provide on-the-job training and track performance daily so that improvements can be made quickly.
