Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our accounting team. This role will support cost accounting activities across manufacturing, warranty, operations, supply chain, service, and other cross-functional areas. The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing operational and financial data, supporting month-end close, maintaining accounting schedules, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with internal controls and applicable accounting principles.
The Role
- Support cost accounting activities, including but not limited to standard cost, inventory, warranty, remanufacturing, job costing, and related financial reporting
- Assist with month-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accounting schedules, and supporting documentation
- Analyze financial and operational data to explain variances, identify trends, and deliver actionable insights; maintain and improve reports, models, dashboards, and analytical tools
- Partner with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, operations, supply chain, quality, engineering, service, and finance) to resolve accounting, reporting, and process issues while ensuring process integrity
- Support internal and external audits, ensure compliance with SOX controls and U.S. GAAP, and identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, data quality, controls, and close efficiency
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in Cost Accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment, or related accounting or finance experience
- CPA or MBA preferred, but not required
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, assess problems, identify root causes, and make recommendations
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with experience using reporting/data analysis tools and designing models from operational and financial data

Tesla vehicles are produced at its factory in Fremont, California, and Gigafactory Shanghai. To achieve our goal of having the safest factories in the world, Tesla is taking a proactive approach to safety, requiring production employees to participate in a multi-day training program before ever setting foot on the factory floor. From there, Tesla continues to provide on-the-job training and track performance daily so that improvements can be made quickly.
