• Healthcare Customer Service
• Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist
• Medical Assistant
• Medical Billing and Coding
• Medical Office Assistant
• Patient Care Technician
• Pharmacy Technician
• Phlebotomy

Currently unavailable but accepting interest for future enrollment:

• Advanced Telehealth Coordinator
• Electrocardiograph Technician (EKG/ECG)
• Patient Care Representative
• Surgical Technologist
• Vocational Nursing (LVN)

Participants can receive:

• Tuition-free allied healthcare education and training
• Support from a success coach through completion, graduation, and certification
• Job-search and workplace-readiness training
• Career counseling and employment-placement assistance
• Access to healthcare career pathways with long-term growth potential

Eligibility requirements include:

• Must be referred by an SEIU-UHW member in good standing
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must be a California resident
• Must have a high school diploma or GED
• Must have a reliable computer, internet access, and basic computer proficiency
• Must be able to dedicate approximately 20 or more hours per week to studying
• Must be able to pass a drug screening and background check
• Must have reliable transportation for any required clinical externship
• Must live within 50 miles of the applicable program location
• Cannot be enrolled in another full-time educational program

Please note: Although tuition is covered, accepted participants may be responsible for a $150 nonrefundable application fee, a $77 background-check and drug-screening fee, immunizations, and other program-specific expenses.

Career Training Locations

Training is offered online, in person, or in a hybrid format, depending on the program and applicant’s location.

• Phlebotomy: Oakland and San Diego
• Healthcare Customer Service and Peer Support Specialist: Online
• CNA, EMT, Medical Assistant, ERT, Pharmacy Technician and similar clinical programs: Hybrid or in-person training with local labs/externships; locations are confirmed during registration
• Patient Care Technician: In-person; location varies
• Dental Assisting: Currently only offered in Oregon
• Medical Billing and Coding and Medical Office Assistant: Currently only offered in Connecticut and Florida

Applicants may need to live within 50 miles of the assigned training site and have reliable transportation.
