Position Overview


The Area Supervisor plays a critical leadership role overseeing day-to-day composting operations across multiple sites within a defined region. This position ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, safety, and high-quality product output while supporting teams, coordinating logistics, and maintaining strong relationships with municipal and agricultural partners. 


This is a hands-on, field-based role ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic outdoor environments, enjoys problemsolving, and is passionate about advancing California’s circular economy. 


Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership
 Oversee daily operations across assigned composting or organics processing sites. 
 Ensure production goals, quality standards, and throughput targets are consistently met. 
 Monitor equipment performance, site conditions, and material flow; escalate issues proactively. 
 Coordinate with processing, transportation, and sales teams to maintain efficient workflows. 
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
 Ensure all operations comply with state and local regulations, including SB 1383 requirements. 
 Maintain accurate logs, reporting, and documentation for inspections and audits. 
 Conduct regular safety meetings, enforce PPE requirements, and model a safety-first culture. 
 Support environmental monitoring, including temperature tracking, stormwater BMPs, and vector control. 
Team Management & Training
 Supervise site leads, equipment operators, and labor teams. 
 Provide coaching, performance feedback, and skill development opportunities. 
 Assist with scheduling, staffing, and onboarding of new team members. 
 Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.

Quality Control & Product Integrity
 Monitor compost maturity, contamination levels, and product specifications. 
 Work with quality assurance teams to ensure consistent, market-ready materials. 
 Troubleshoot issues related to feedstock quality, moisture, temperature, and processing timelines. 
Customer & Partner Coordination
 Serve as a point of contact for municipal partners, haulers, and agricultural customers. 
 Support site tours, audits, and partner visits as needed. 
 Communicate operational updates, challenges, and opportunities clearly and professionally. 
Logistics & Resource Management
 Coordinate inbound feedstock deliveries and outbound product shipments. 
 Track inventory, equipment needs, and material volumes. 
 Assist with budgeting, cost tracking, and resource allocation. 
Required Skills & Qualifications
Leadership & Communication
 Billingual English/Spanish. (Required) 
 Strong supervisory experience with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams. 
 Excellent communication skills—clear, professional, and solutions-oriented. 
 Ability to collaborate across departments and maintain strong partner relationships. 
Operational Strengths
 Skilled in troubleshooting, prioritizing tasks, and managing multiple sites or projects. 
 Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
 Strong organizational and time-management abilities. 
Other Requirements
 Valid driver’s license; ability and willingness to travel between sites. 
 Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on active industrial sites. 
Preferred Qualifications
 Understanding of composting processes, equipment (loaders, grinders, screens), and safety protocols is 
preferred. 
 Experience in composting, agriculture, farming, organics processing, or a related industry. 
 Working knowledge of composting operations, biological processes, and organics management.

Location, Schedule & Work Environment
 Primary Region: Based primarily in the greater Sacramento County area, but supporting sites as needed 
throughout neighboring counties. 
 Schedule: Full-time; typically Monday–Friday and some Saturdays based on operational needs. 
 Environment: Outdoor, active composting and processing sites; requires fieldwork, equipment oversight, and 
regular travel between locations.
