Job Description

Job Summary
Operate a commercial truck to haul and transport delivering building materials to construction sites, warehouses, or retail locations. They must ensure the safe transportation of materials, adhere to traffic laws and regulations, and maintain the cleanliness and maintenance of the delivery vehicle. Additionally, they may be required to assist with loading and unloading materials at delivery locations.

Essential Functions
• Communicate with Dispatcher/Plant Manager to receive instructions via 2-way radio in truck and direct-line telephone in yard.
• Operate block delivery vehicles including but not limited to: boom truck, straight truck and tractor trailers.
• Secure load on truck by means of side screens and straps.
• Inspect building materials to ensure quality of products before and during deliveries.
• Receive written or printed delivery ticket and follow instructions as directed.
• Safely drive loaded truck to destination on delivery ticket and inspect jobsite upon arrival.
• Work with customers to obtain adequate vehicle access and unload material.
• Unload block via forklift or forks mounted on hydraulic boom on truck.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle safety inspections; document and report vehicle condition at beginning and end of each shift.
• Check all vehicle fluid levels daily and add fluids if necessary.
• Assist other drivers as necessary – report delays/problems to supervisor or dispatcher.

Responsibilities

Education
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required

Experience
• Previous experience operating commercial trucks or heavy construction equipment is preferred. 
• Valid Class “A” commercial driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
• Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
• Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
• Experience with Department of Transportation rules and regulations for transporting heavy equipment is preferred.
• Monitor your surroundings when operating equipment in and out of the plant and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required to ensure safety.
• Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others at all times in accordance with Vulcan standards while operating equipment in and out of the plant.

Salary. The salary is prescribed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates will be placed according to union contract salary scale at $41.54 per hour.
