The SSHO will function as the primary safety authority for facility maintenance and airfield operations under a DoD contract. The SSHO’s primary responsibility is to develop and enforce the Contractor’s safety program, act as the OSHA Competent Person on-site, and provide subject matter expertise on 29 CFR 1910, 1926, and EM 385-1-1. The ideal candidate will have experience creating, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and training, while continuously evaluating contract activities for improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and compliance objectives to managers, supervisors, and staff.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety legislation.
- Develop policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Interface with regulatory agencies, corporate HSE, and the Project Manager.
- Design and deliver safety training for all project employees.
- Develop and implement accident investigation and recurrence prevention programs.
- Conduct on-site safety audits and program reviews.
- Manage Worker’s Compensation and Federal DOT compliance programs.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are compliant with the El Centro Site-Specific Safety Plan.
- Chair quarterly safety meetings and lead the Employee Safety Council.
- Maintain thorough understanding of contract requirements and ensure timely compliance.
- Anticipate future trends in safety equipment and compliance needs.
Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- HS diploma required.
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene or related Technical Field preferred.
- SSHO shall have worked on similar projects (size, scope, complexity), possess a 10-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within last 3 years and have competent person training as required.
