THE POSITION In a non-career and training capacity, to perform heavy manual labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of City streets and other facilities and to operate light trucks, and medium street construction and maintenance equipment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the sub-entry and training level class in the series. Incumbents perform the less difficult work and are considered to be in a training capacity. They receive direct supervision and are not expected to perform the full range of duties assigned to the journey level. Incumbents who successfully complete a two-year training program will be transitioned into the Street Construction Laborer class as a probationary employee. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Immediate supervision is provided by a Street Maintenance Supervisor. Lead direction may be provided by a Street Construction Equipment Operator.
