Definition Under close supervision, and in accordance with guidelines and procedures, assists regular staff in the supervision, custodial care and limited counseling of a group of youth or adults placed under the jurisdiction of the Chief Probation Officer. Staff assignments are limited to the Juvenile Detention Facility.
Distinguishing Characteristics This class is defined as an extra help class, and will only be used to provide temporary replacements for regular Juvenile Detention Facility staff who are absent due to vacation, sick leave, military duty, leave without pay, or other reasons. It is distinguished from Detention Officer I in that this class is not expected to perform the full range of peace officer duties and responsibilities required of a Detention Officer I, such as independently engaging in the restraint, arrest, or handcuffing of youth or adults.
