The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is led by Bill Brown, the elected Sheriff-Coroner. The Sheriff’s Office provides our communities with a wide variety of services, including law enforcement, corrections, court services, Search & Rescue, and the Coroner function. The agency employs 459 sworn officers and 169 civilian personnel.

Santa Barbara County is a service-oriented organization that functions with a workforce of approximately 4,000 employees and an annual budget of nearly $900 million. County employees span 23 departments and strive to improve the lives of a diverse population of 435,000. Santa Barbara County is governed by a five-member elected Board of Supervisors, assisted by the County Executive Officer (CEO), who is appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

Vandenberg Air Force Base has traditionally had a large economic impact in the northern portion of the county and continues to be the site of frequent satellite launches. A rapidly expanding vineyard industry has emerged within Santa Barbara County, producing some of the world’s finest wines.
