The U.S. Geological Survey Research Drilling Program (RDP) provides a unique in-house drilling and coring service to the Nation. The drilling, drilling related and borehole testing operations performed by RDP
allow many latitudes in research-oriented earth science studies that would not be possible using outside.

Major Duties:
Apprentice to the driller. Directs and assists in setting up rig and drilling holes to depths as great as 3,000 feet. Holes range in size and vary depending upon the job. Drilling methods include direct and reverse mud rotary and air rotary, downhole air hammer, continuous core, auger, direct push and any other method deemed necessary to complete the mission.
