Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an Experienced Sharpener to join our Knife Building Assembly team at Hogue.  This position is responsible for all areas of the Sharpening process within the Assembly department.  High attention to detail and quality consciousness is essential.  There will also be opportunity to cross-train in multiple related skills within the department as well as participation in continuous improvement activities and teams.

This department operates on 2 shifts (day shift and swing shift). We are currently recruiting for new employees on swing shift.  The starting wage of this role will be $15-17+/hr. 

  Job Responsibilities:

  • Setting up and operating belt, wheel, and buff sharpeners to hand-sharpen knives to a razor sharp edge
  • Sharpen new knives as well as knives returned for warranty repair
  • Inspect knife cutting edge visually and through paper cutting tests using subjective judgment to ensure edge cosmetics and sharpness
  • Conduct all routine maintenance to ensure product quality

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year recent experience in a manufacturing environment, 
  • Ability to sharpen all knife models using current sharpening methods, especially hand sharpening.
  • Good judgment in performing subjective inspections. Such as cosmetic criteria and determining knife functionality (smooth opening, detent force, blade stability)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience in the cutlery industry is highly preferred, but we will consider recent retail sales experience and/or demonstrated experience with knife sharpening
  • Quality-conscious with an eye for detail and pride in quality workmanship
  • Good math skills
  • Basic computer skills a plus
  • Consistently meet requirements of regular, predictable and on-time attendance
  • Able to lift 10 lbs. routinely: 25 lbs occasionally
