Job Description

We are currently hiring for Material Planner/Scheduler (all levels) for welding and manufacturing company servicing the US Navy and local maritime companies.
 

This is a Temp-to-Hire opportunity. Work hours Full Time 40 hours a week with possible Overtime

Pay range is based on experience, $20-$26 per hour

SUMMARY

Provides trade specific schedules. Performs outfitting work breakdown and sequencing based on established production rates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  1. Master Planning:
  1. Develop Master Planning strategies for use by other departments.
  2. Assist in development of Milestone Schedules.
  3. Assist in development of Capacity analysis.
  4. Resolve planning problems identified by appropriate Planning personnel and Production supervisors.
  5. Coordinate with other Production and Planning organizations.
  6. Support and implement department process improvement initiatives.
  1. Outfit Planning:
  1. Prepare detail planning work instructions that directly support installation of outfitting equipment and components.
  2. Develop budgets required to install materials identified in work instructions.
  3. Coordinate with other Production and Planning organizations.
  4. Resolve planning problems identified by appropriate Outfit Planning personnel and Production supervisors.
  5. Support and implement department process improvement initiatives.
  1. Steel Planning:
  1. Develop Steel Manufacturing Plans.
  2. Route assemblies to appropriate workstations.
  3. Apply budget rates to all production stages.
  4. Develop visual work product breakdowns, manning, durations, and isometric work status boards.
  5. Coordinate with other Production and Planning organizations.
  6. Support and implement department process improvement initiatives.

D. Paint, Scaffold, Temp Services Planning:

  1. Assist in development of Schedules.
  2. Resolve planning problems identified by appropriate Planning personnel and Production supervisors.
  3. Coordinate with other Production and Planning organizations
  4. .Prepare detail planning work instructions that directly support installation of outfitting equipment and components.
  5. Develop budgets required to install materials identified in work instructions.
  6. Apply budget rates to all production stages.
  7. Develop visual work product breakdowns, manning, durations, and isometric work status boards.
  8. Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time and reduce costs.
  9. Responsible for the preparation, verification, and distribution of accurate and timely planning, budgeting, and reporting products, in accordance with department policy. Responsible for assisting department managers in implementation of policy.

Reports to Supervisors Planning. Works under minimum supervision. Interfaces with all levels Planners/Schedulers, Engineers and other department managers.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

High School Graduate or equivalent with minimum of (2-3) years of work experience in shipyard or other construction environment. Self-starter with aptitude and willingness to learn.

  1. Knowledge of:
  1. Blueprint reading.
  2. Client Manufacturing Standards.
  3. Production work processes.
  4. Stage of Construction (SOC) breakdown and philosophy.
  5. Build Strategy Concepts
  6. Cost, Schedule, and Control System (CSCS)
  7. Planning processes.
  8. MacPac Material Management System or similar
  9. Trade production rates.
  10. Client safety policy.

B. Skill in:

  1. Bill of Material analysis.
  2. Development of detailed plans and schedules.
  3. Build Strategy application during the planning process.
  4. Correction of technical conflicts between Engineering, Materials, and Production.
  5. Performance trend analysis.
  6. Training of Junior Planner/Scheduler-level personnel.
  7. With supervision, assess impact of late material, schedule changes, and manpower requirements.
  8. Communication orally and in writing, including effective preparation and conduct of meetings.
  9. Interpersonal working relationships, with emphasis on cooperation and teamwork.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires ability to physically commute to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Must be capable of climbing ladders and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must maintain mental alertness and all safety requirements, particularly when transiting in production areas. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 50% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is usually low to moderate in office environments and moderate to noisy in production environments 70% of the time. Production noise may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.
