Job Description

SHOP LEAD PERSON

The Shop Lead Person oversees the day-to-day service operations of The Cat Rental Store by overseeing the service shop, inbound/outbound/QC inspections, and working with the Store Manager on job assignments, job scheduling and job progress. He/she will also assist Yard Mechanics with technical advice, and assist with customer calls and walk-ins requesting technical assistance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Directs and instructs on repairs to other service personal.
  • Responsible for yard layout and yard inventory.
  • Handle field service calls as dispatched.
  • Oversees the disassembly of units and inspects parts for wear.
  • Responsible for writing service reports accurately oversees service personnel's service reports.
  • Monitors service repairs for correct and accurate repairs and greets, assists and directs customers in yard area.
  • Mentors and teaches all yard personnel.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety culture of the company.
  • Repairs or replaces parts such as:
    • Pistons, rods, gears, valves, crankshafts, cylinder blocks, and bearings.
    • Overhauls and replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
    • Requires working knowledge of ignition system, lights, and instrument panels.
    • Relines and adjusts brakes, and repairs leaks in radiator.
    • Repairs/adjusts headlights, installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors and windshield wipers
    • Orders parts when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write service reports.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must have good computer and software skills and possess the capability to learn computer software utilized by Holt’s Service Department.
  • Good leadership skills that earn trust amongst peers and subordinates and likewise, coach weaknesses and praise strengths.
  • Ability to prioritize and define the importance of one job vs. another.
  • Good interpersonal skills that possesses the quality of offer assistance when requested and ask for help when needed.
  • Team oriented to distinguish between good for one and good for all.
  • Ability to utilize a wide range of resources to find a solution for a problem.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a problem to identify the source.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and five years of equipment experience are required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

Must have a valid California Driver’s License class C or higher with a clean D.M.V. report.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
