Northwest Valley Connect (NVC) needs both paid and volunteer drivers. As folks are beginning to get COVID vaccine and looking to resume a new “normal”, the demand for rides is growing.
Northwest Valley Connect is a nonprofit organization which provides transportation for seniors, veterans and persons with disability. Drivers can use their own vehicles, or one provided by NVC. All positions are part time. Volunteer drivers have the flexibility to choose their own hours. Paid drivers work scheduled but sometimes variable hours.
All drivers must pass background checks because they have direct contact with clients. They must also have a good driving record. Personal vehicles must carry insurance as required by the State of Arizona. NVC carries an umbrella liability policy.
Vans provided by NVC have wheelchair lifts and wheelchairs are secured in place once inside the van. Drivers using vans are trained to drive the vans and to use the lifts. Safety is important. Drivers and riders must wear masks. Vehicles are cleaned and sanitized between trips.
Northwest Valley Connect provides rides for medical appointments, shopping, beauty and barber shops and other destinations in the west valley. In 2019, before COVID, we provided over 17,000 rides. We are a vital service in the west valley. You can help us serve others in your community. We also need volunteers for duties such as answering the phones at the call center, making wellness calls and office work.
Northwest Valley Connect, Expanding Transport Services
Essential Transport Company is Experiencing Growth in Accessible Van Demand
Northwest Valley Connect, a transport service for a special population, the 65 years and older, the disabled and veterans residing in the west valley, announced today, that use of accessible vans increased 47% since March 2020. Although the pandemic limited transport for seniors to many social activities, reliance on NVC accessible vans as transport to medical/human services, such as dialysis, cancer treatments, and food assistance has more than doubled. Compliance with recent health and safety practices focused the attention of Kathryn Chandler, NVC Executive Director on rising transport requests of residents and she determined NVC van service is a better solution for people to access their destinations.
The organization is a stand-a-lone nonprofit essential transport since 2014 servicing. seniors and the disabled community residents who lack access to public transportation because services are fragmented or nonexistent or people are not able to drive. The impact of COVID-19 changed the way transportation is provided in communities. For public transportation, taxi services, and community ride services the impact is costly. “Diversifying NVC services to accommodate not only individual ride requests but increasing the level of service to accommodate community organizations will be a real cost savings for both groups”, says Kathryn.
Because NVC services, vehicles, and mode of operations are recommended among community resources, the organization was approached to assist with van transport services. To achieve this new endeavor, NVC is hiring community members with good driving records and preferred CDL’s. Please call and talk with Kathryn Chandler about your interests.
