Job Description


The Shop Foreman/Adviser will organize, lead and control the flow of service work through the service department in a professional, timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer.


Reporting directly to the Service Manager, the Shop Foreman/Adviser will communicate closely with the Service Manager and Branch Manager as it relates to the accomplishment of directives, objectives, and perform as the primary liaison communicating status of ongoing affairs between customers and staff in multiple departments.

The Shop Foreman/Adviser will work closely with technicians, coordinating with them the various aspects of customer service requirements.

1- Assign shop work with the properly skilled technician for each job

2- Oversee jobs in the shop making sure SRT times are met

3- Responsibility to direct technicians through their daily activity

4- Part of the hiring TEAM for potential technicians

5- Assist to help evaluate technicians as a part of the decision process for technician pay raises and performance evaluations/training areas

6- Approve vacation – granting time off for technicians and approve overtime when needed; Manage Tech Hours daily

7- Manage technicians to be in compliance with dealerships policies and procedures – and help take necessary discipline with technicians if not adhered to



  • Maintain a dealership-prescribed standard for “hours per customer repair order written.”
  • Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes, OSHA right-to-know, etc.
  • Ensure that all documents are accounted for in Job Jackets
  • Accomplish the forecast that has been established by the Service Manager.
  • Process Shop Payables
  • Reconcile Payroll System to Repair Order System
  • Company Vehicle Maintenance Scheduling
  • Cash/Check/Credit Card Processing Daily
  • Fax, Email, Digital Pix, Phone Calls for all aspects of Service WorkCustomer-related:
  • Create Estimates for Service and Body Shops
  • Maintain contact with service customers on a timely basis and in a professional manner with follow-up and completion calls
  • Schedule shop work as efficiently as possible in accordance with dealership policy.
  • Check job status as often as necessary, but at least twice each shift. Report to customer any change in time promised and notify of any additional repairs that may be required.
  • Open and close repair orders.
  • Check customer credit, vehicle warranty, or vendor policy status.
  • Handle routine complaints and make adjustment for jobs that require one hour or less. Recommend adjustments greater than this to the Service Manager.


High School Diploma. Technical School preferred or related experience. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. Commercial driver’s license preferred and good driving record necessary. Five years of experience as a technician or Foreman in a truck dealership. Manual dexterity. Good judgment. Ability to operate power and hand tools and other equipment safely. Ability to work with technicians, communicate with fellow workers in a positive manner. Multitasker with latest technologies in office and shop environments.
