VT Group is seeking a Welder 3 located in San Diego, CA.

 

Welds metal components together with brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors, and generators by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

Relies on experience and judgement to include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes layout on metals.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Utilizes hand tools such as grinders, drills, needle guns, saws, calipers, scribes, combination squares.
  • Operate all machines in discipline.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • Four years of related experience or AS plus three years of experience in related field, or BS degree with two year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must pass precertification company welding test
  • Must obtain apprenticeship or certification in welding from secondary school
