SUBJECT: State Active Duty Vacancy Announcement 2018-124 - Expires 18 January 2019 1. The Military Department is accepting applications for the State Active Duty position indicated below. This vacancy announcement expires 18 January 2019 unless sooner rescinded. An appointment to this position provides full benefit status for the appointee and their beneficiaries. The incumbent will be appointed on annually renewable State Active Duty orders through year six, at which time the incumbent may be eligible for career status IAW CMD Reg 600-1 w/ Change #1. Continuation and subsequent extensions of service will be determined by the individual’s performance of duty and continuation of funding. The service member selected for this position will be paid at their federal or California State Military Reserve pay grade, not to exceed E-6. 2. This announcement has minimum requirements. The basic qualification requirements are: a. Members of the active California Air National Guard or active members of the California State Military Reserve (CSMR) in the grades of E-5 through E-7 may apply. Applicants must have a military affiliation per Para 3-2 of CMD Regulation 600-1. Applicants who are not current members of the California Air National Guard or CSMR may also apply, however, applicants must meet military affiliation requirements at the time of appointment. Qualifying service in the active militia must have been within 24 months of the closing date of this vacancy announcement. CSMR members who have no prior federal military experience must be a member of the CSMR for a minimum of two years. CSMR members must submit a copy of their CSMR orders with their application. Non-members of the California National Guard or CSMR must submit a letter of intent to meet qualifying military affiliation at the time of appointment along with their application. b. Completion of military and civilian education requirements commensurate with the grade of the applicant are required. Attach documentation of your highest level of civilian education. c. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a building construction trade, or equivalent military technical school, Or, NGCA-JSD-SP SUBJECT: State Active Duty Vacancy Announcement 2018-124 – Expires 18 January 2019 Three years of varied experience as a Building Maintenance Worker, or other similar facility maintenance position, which must have included experience working in at least three of the following areas: electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and performing minor building construction, repair and painting, Or, Four years of varied experience in the Mechanical Trades which must have included experience working in at least three of the following areas: electrical, plumbing, water and sewer systems, repairing various mechanical and automotive equipment, and performing minor building construction, repair and painting. f. Applicant must meet, and maintain, Federally Recognized medical fitness standards. Attach a current copy, within the past twelve months, of your military component’s verification of these requirements. Appropriate military uniform with federally recognized, or CSMR recognized, rank will be worn in accordance with military regulation. i. Principal Duty Functions: The Regional Training Site (RTS) Building Maintenance Worker works under the direct supervision of the RTS Manager in the Civil Engineering Squadron. Work assignments are either self-generated, directed from the RTS Manager or from Production Control via the Civil Engineer IEMS work orders. Direct technical supervision at the supervisor level is rarely available. Evaluation of the incumbent’s work is to be accomplished through inspection/observance of condition of facilities and equipment and customer feedback. Also taken into consideration are after action reports accomplished by visiting teams and training critiques by MEET students at the Regional Training Site. a. Under general direction, identifies and performs miscellaneous skilled work in the maintenance, alteration and repair of buildings and mechanical systems. b. Operates independently and is able to identify and resolve the tasks required by this position. c. Facility maintenance and repair, responsible for the maintenance and repair of the real property assets of the Regional Training Site. Performs custodial, grounds keeping, infrastructure/building maintenance and repair. d. Responsible for construction trade areas such as heating and ventilation, plumbing, electrical, utilities, carpentry, pavements, painting, irrigation, landscaping and custodial. e. Operates heavy equipment to include backhoe, skip-loader with various attachments, dump truck, grader, water truck and street sweeper. f. Inspects, repairs and maintains plumbing, HVAC, water, gas, electrical and sewer systems. g. Performs electrical maintenance and repair work, repairs facility maintenance tools and equipment, performs miscellaneous minor building construction and repair work. Performs miscellaneous interior and exterior painting. h. Estimates and requisitions materials and supplies. i. Keeps tools and equipment in good working condition. j. Keeps records and prepares reports. k. Assists incoming teams. At times, required to conduct briefings to incoming teams on Regional Training Site policies and procedures.
