General Summary: Under general supervision, the Child Development Specialist II will work as a team member within the Family Engagement Department of the Resource & Referral Division. The Specialist will assist in educating the community about child development, quality child care, and other child care issues. The Specialist will and lead activities and assist patrons in the CCRC Lending Library, provide referrals to parents seeking child care, and provide technical assistance to families and child care providers. The Specialist duties include technical assistance through outreach events and onsite visits in the community. The Specialist will coordinate trainings/workshops for parents, providers, and CCRC staff. Key areas of responsibility include the ability to: • Provide support and staffing for the Lending library; plan & implement activities, such as story time; support other ongoing library programs. (40%) • Provide child care plan, consumer education, and technical assistance to child care providers, parents and the community. (20%) • Build connections with and maintain resources within the community. (15%) • Plan and facilitate child development trainings for parents and other community members; collaborate with other team members on planning and implementing trainings/workshops & conferences throughout the year. (10%) • Represent the Agency, and conduct presentations as needed, at community outreach events and activities, including resource fairs, meetings, and all agency-sponsored events. (10%) • Maintain and ensure data integrity and accuracy for required databases. (5%) To be successful, you will need: • BA minimum or equivalent college semester units in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field such as Human Development or equivalent experience or any combination of education and experience which would enable the candidate to successful perform the functions of the position, preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with families and/or in child development preferred. • Strong knowledge and understanding of Child Development and Developmentally Appropriate Practices. • Working knowledge of the Strengthening Families Framework Protective Factors and experience implementing family engagement programs with a strength-based approach strongly desired. • Experience implementing family engagement programs with a strength-based approach. • Experience and comfort working with diverse client populations and facilitating conversations with adults (bi-lingual preferred). • Experience facilitating groups independently and/or co-facilitating groups. • Knowledge of community resources. • Ability to use effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. • Familiarity with child care provider population. • Ability to complete projects under tight deadlines even when there are competing requirement and changes in assignments. • Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to successfully interface with others. • Ability to maintain cooperative, diplomatic working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agency staff, and the public. • Ability to be flexible and innovative, as the needs of the program evolve (including flexibility to work a non-traditional work schedule - i.e. evenings and weekends), to support departmental and agency programs. • Ability to complete projects under tight deadlines even when there are competing requirements and changes in assignments. • Proficiency in Windows based programs and data entry experience required. • Valid California Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, automobile insurance and a clean driving record required. • Provide documentation of required TB and fingerprint clearance.
