Job Description

You will serve as a CRANE OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities •You will operate gasoline, diesel, or electric powered cranes to lift, move, and position heavy loads. •You will use load charts to determine crane's lifting capacity in relation to the position of the boom and to compensate for variations in a crane's lifting capacity. •You will make lifting capacity judgements during continual position changes and within extreme congested areas. •You will store, stack, and palletize items with a crane based on consideration of use, size, shape, weight, quantity, and safety to others. May require moderate lifting to handle rigging equipment such as slings, cradles, spreaders, etc., or general material that may be in process. Lifting assistance is available for heavier weights. Working Conditions: Equipment is operated outdoors during periods of extreme heat or cold from a cab that is generally open on one side for clear vision and ventilation. Operator is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and fumes, and is exposed to dangers from swinging crane loads, overturning, and cable breakage.
