Job Summary: As directed, independently performs moderately difficult tasks in preparing quantities of quickly prepared foods such as steaks, chops, cutlets, hamburgers, eggs, salads and other similar items.
Responsibilities:
1. Works under the supervision of the Cook II. The Cook I will act independently or assist in the performance of any and all duties necessary to keep the facility in full operation. Will perform other duties as assigned. 2. The duties listed below are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work. They should not be construed as a complete list of the various duties normally performed by the individuals assigned to the Food Service department or those to be performed temporarily outside an employee’s normal line of work.
3. A) Work is completed in a priority established by supervision or facility need. All work will be completed with a high degree of professionalism, quality and craftsmanship. B) Lulls in workload are used to maintain a clean and orderly work area and to insure clerical tasks are up to date. Keeps up to date on departmental and facility safety standards and local codes and policies. C) Trains and oversees a crew of detainees assigned to prepare, cook, and serve meals and clean kitchen and dining area; estimates food. Instructs inmates in the preparation of quality meals. D) Coordinates the work of the detainee crew to complete adequate food preparation and serving at the allotted times. E) Observes the work of detainees in the kitchen and instructs inmates in kitchen safety practices and more efficient work method. F) Maintains security, control, and proper issuance of tools and chemicals. G) Assists in providing safety training to staff and detainees workers. H) Routinely conducts searches of all areas of food service for contraband. I) Will perform other duties as assigned.
