Summary

About the Position: This is a TERM appointment not to exceed 3 years based on workload requirements and staffing authorizations, and may be extended up to 6 years. A term appointment does not confer eligibility to be promoted or reassigned to other positions, nor the ability to be non-competitively converted to a career-conditional appointment.

Relocation/Recruitment Incentive may be authorized.

Responsibilities

 

  • Design and conduct evaluations and diagnostic studies to assess the quality and performance of health education and wellness programs.
  • Examine existing resources and availability of services to develop a comprehensive marketing plan for meeting needs of the community.
  • Develop curriculum to present health education and wellness promotion programs, such as training workshops, conferences, and community presentations.
  • Analyze program evaluation data to determine client satisfaction and possible room for improvement.
  • Liaise with other individuals and groups to further professional knowledge and gain ideas of how to improve the total program offerings.
  • Exchange ideas with a variety of agencies to determine the most effective way to promote health education initiatives.
  • Plan and assign work to be accomplished by subordinate staff to meet program goals.
  • Coach and mentor employees to ensure professional development and training objectives are met.

Minimum Qualification (Basic Requirement) for the 1701 Series:

Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application .)
OR
Combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described above. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.)

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, applicants must meet the specialized experience requirement listed below.

Specialized Experience : at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes designing and implementing health promotion programs; educating clients in the prevention and practical management of general risk factors; conducting and managing budget, fiscal monitoring and general administration of health related programs.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
